Born at 4 minutes past midnight on 13 March 1944 in Savernake Hospital, Wiltshire, Robin Baker was the youngest child of two for his father and of three for his mother. After leaving war-time service, his father maintained the large Estate at Manningford Bruce for the Lord-of-the-Manor, a task which ranged from forestry management to the upkeep of the many tied cottages. His mother was a State Enlisted Nurse at Pewsey Mental Hospital. |
His mother was so dismayed at giving birth on the 13th by so narrow a margin that she asked the midwife to record the date of birth as the 12th. The mid-wife refused. |
